🇬🇧 UK Law: Online Safety Act

As of July 25, 2025, the United Kingdom enforces the Online Safety Act, a law requiring all websites publishing sexual or sensitive content to implement robust age verification systems.

This includes secure methods (such as identity documents, facial recognition, or banking data) to prevent underage users from accessing adult material. Non-compliant platforms may face heavy sanctions, including being blocked within the UK.

🇫🇷 French Law: ARCOM Requirements

In France, the SREN law (Security and Regulation of the Digital Space), passed in 2024, empowers ARCOM (formerly the CSA) to enforce age verification standards to protect minors from adult content.

In anticipation of these obligations, Art of Kelv already implements protective measures on the platform.

✅ Age Verification Measures on Art of Kelv

To ensure compliance with legal obligations and guarantee the safety of minors:

  1. Entry Verification
    Upon entering the website, all users must enter their date of birth to access content.
  2. Explicit Excerpts Removed
    To reduce risk and exposure, all book excerpts have been voluntarily removed, as they may be deemed too explicit for public viewing.
  3. Post-Purchase Verification
    After placing an order, buyers must complete an additional verification process to confirm they are of legal age:
    • A signed declaration of honor must be provided, along with a copy of a valid government-issued ID (passport or national ID card).
    • Only three elements must remain clearly visible on the document:
      • Full name
      • First name
      • Date of birth
        All other information must be blurred or blacked out.
    • The name and first name must exactly match the order details.
      This is a legal requirement for identity verification.
🛑 In Case of Refusal or Irregularities

If the verification is incomplete or invalid, two outcomes are possible:

  • If the buyer is underage → the order will be immediately refunded and the user will be permanently banned from the platform.
  • If the buyer is of legal age but the name details don’t match → an email will be sent requesting a corrected ID document.
    If no valid proof is received or the data remains inconsistent, the order will be canceled and refunded.
🕒 Processing Time

Once the order is placed, there is a 7-day window to submit the required verification documents.
If no file is received within this time frame, the order will be automatically canceled and refunded.

🔐 Privacy & Data Security

All verification documents are strictly confidential and will not be stored.
As soon as the verification is complete, the file is securely deleted from our system.
